Untouched Barbuda

Antigua, Antigua and Barbuda

Bar-who? Yes, Barbuda. Not to be confused with the jam-packed beaches and tourism laden Bermuda, Antigua's sister island is home to unspoiled Caribbean beauty. With a small population and almost no development, Barbuda is the perfect place to get away from it all.

For the ultimate respite fly into Antigua's international airport and board a helicopter bound for Lighthouse Bay Resort, an exclusive property that boasts over twenty-two miles of beach and nine posh suites. Situated on the secluded and pristine beach front land of Low Bay, Barbuda, Lighthouse Bay offers the ultimate in private island living. Facing the Caribbean Sea, there's no need to request an ocean front room as each of the resort's suites opens to private east and west views.

Prepare to indulge in fresh, innovative cuisine prepared by legendary master chef, Lennox Cadogan. Internationally trained, he creates an enticing array of unforgettable selections, including lobster that is to die for. In case you actually need a break from relaxing and want to work off some of the good eats, the staff at Lighthouse can arrange sailing, fishing, snorkeling and horseback riding excursions.

The yacht marina has become a world class destination for sailors and is home to the largest regatta in the world. The sight of what seemed like hundreds of craft in the marina is a comely sight to behold. I kind of wished one of these fine sailing specimens was mine. The major buildings at the Dockyard include Fort Berkeley which guards the entrance in English Harbor and the officer quarters, now containing shops and restaurants. We learned that the entire area is part of a National Park and attracts visitors who want …
