Raleigh

Raleigh Durham, North Carolina

Raleigh, North Carolina is one of the three cities that collectively make up Research Triangle Park. The other cities are Chapel Hill and Durham. The area earned this nickname due to its three major universities: North Carolina State in Raleigh, Duke University in Durham, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Having these three major universities in such close proximity obviously creates an intense sports rivalry. Actually intense isn't even the word. If you're a college basketball fan, you must visit during the season-- the locals get down right vicious! The Blue Devil fans taunt the Carolina Tar Heels, while N.C. State fans voice their dislike for both of the aforementioned. The close proximity of the three major universities has another effect on the area — it fosters cultural activities and events that benefit the region as a whole.

During your visit to Raleigh, be sure to check out the museums, take a tour of one of our local HBCUs, or just relax at one of the many fabulous restaurants the region has to offer. The college campuses are always hosting events-- sporting events, museums, theatrical performances, step shows, and homecomings. The neighborhoods that house the …

Shaba Shabu

Raleigh Durham, North Carolina

If you're like me, then you want the restaurant you dine in to be just as stylish and in vogue as you are!

Shaba Shabu incorporates authentic Thai and Japanese cuisine served in an urban, contemporary setting. Sushi lovers get off here! Although it's an excellent place to grab lunch with your colleagues, it offers the ideal atmosphere for an evening out with friends.

Upon entering, you'll find that you can choose to dine at a table, or seat yourself in the lounge. Although the table seating is eloquent and quaint, I often opt for a seat at the bar, or along the walls of the lounge on a cozy ottoman or couch. The lounge at Shaba Shabu is incredibly chic, serving martinis, sakes, specialty drinks and an extensive variety of wines.

Ordering your appetizer and meal will be the hard part. The selection is vast, and although you can't make a wrong decision, I'd highly recommend the New York and Eel Rolls from the Japanese menu, as well as the Chicken Red Curry from the Thai menu. You can enjoy your food while watching the game on the 100” projector screen, or chatting it …

Solas

Raleigh Durham, North Carolina

Looking for an upscale night club? Class it up at Solas!

It's the latest edition to Raleigh's Glenwood nightlife. Glenwood Avenue is the main drag in downtown Raleigh—it is lined with bars, lounges, restaurants and dance clubs. On Friday and Saturday nights, Glenwood is flooded with a diverse group of socialites seeking to release the stress from the week over drinks and good music. Solas has three levels of dining, lounge, and entertainment. If you want to relax and talk over gourmet food, then the first floor is for you. The tables go fast, so be sure to make your reservation a day or two in advance. If you're in the mood to shake your groove thang, then take a trip to the second level where the DJ plays hits from the 80's, 90's and today. It's decked out with leather sofas, plush booths and the ever popular glass dance floor that overlooks the first floor. The third level, or rooftop, is where patrons can enjoy an aerial view of Glenwood Avenue and downtown Raleigh. You can take in the fresh air, while enjoying Solas' specialty drinks, and music at a more moderate level.

Solas' …
