Phoenix, Arizona

“Bringing the gifts that our ancestors gave, we are the hope and the dream of the slave.”
~Maya Angelou

"History Unveiled On Stage"

The George Washington Carver Museum set the stage for the Black History Month Expo, themed “Conquering our Communities, While Uplifting Our Minds”, on Saturday, February 13th, 2010. This sight created a backdrop and memorialized the “History Meets Future” moment, as never before depicted in Phoenix, Arizona.

Divisions of Faith and social status were obsolete as African Americans from all walks of life bonded to witness culture expressed at its greatest. From the Fabric of Fashion to the Feasts of Food, he Flood of the Faces of Freedom, reveled in the culture of legends, heroes, chefs, stylists, and entertainers as the captivating beauty of the African American art was conveyed.

The Color Guard from Luke Air Force Base opened the floor to honor and present the historical military figures, The Tuskegee Airmen, and the only Living black survivor of Pearl Harbor that were present. Cultural Immersion in Phoenix

Phoenix, Arizona

The Sheraton Wild Horse Pass, eleven miles from the Phoenix International Airport, is embedded in the Gila River Indian Community. Nestled in the 642 square miles of the Sonoran Desert owned by the Pima and the Maricopa Peoples, surrounded by saguaro, barrel cactus and other indigenous plant life, it offers golfing, spa services, and Kia, Arizona’s only Five Star/Five Diamond award restaurant.

Food! Supersized mesquite grilled pancakes with tart apple butter and prickly pear jelly from its other award winning restaurant, Ko’sin. Culture! A blanket, at the foot of each bed, handwoven by a member of the community, definitely not your traditional Sheraton linen; the 10 panel mural depicting elements of the Pima and Maricopa heritage on the ceiling of the multileveled lobby is interpreted by Ginger Sunshine Martin, the only cultural concierge at a hotel in the USA. Pampering! Aji Spa, a traditional round house faces east like the hotel and the Whirlwind Golf House, in keeping with the cultural traditions. The art work – murals depicting the creation story; landscaping – the watsu pool with eddys and turtles; the products – an indigenous line using oils from plants on the lands; the …

Off the Beaten Path

Phoenix, Arizona

The best places in Arizona can be found off the beaten path! You can visit the Colorado River or any of the river and lakes here for boating, fishing and good family fun. You can drive up or take the train to the Grand Canyon – one of the seven wonders of the world - or go hiking in the mountains. My favorite, off-the-beaten path destination in Arizona is a town called Sedona! Sedona is famous for its beautiful red rock formations, hiking trails, jeep tours in the mountains, cool weather, film festival and jazz festivals. People from all over the world go to Sedona to unwind spiritually through vortex tours and psychic counseling.
