Live From Buenos Aires!
Buenos Aires, Argentina
On my last day in Argentina I lucked out and scored a ticket to the World Cup qualifying match for the national team to move on to S. Africa next year. The team was facing elimination, if they did not manage to beat rival country Peru.
I went to the stadium alone and, by the end of the night - which ended in a last minute goal by Argentina to win the whole thing - I was being kissed by random women and jumping with my band of brothers! There was something damn near spiritual and euphoric in the air. I danced in the streets and bonded with complete strangers.
Never mind that I was soaked to my socks and had to walk a mile and a half back to the bus. Never mind the bus driver drove with the windows down and the AC on. Never mind my Rick Steve's Spanish guide had turned into a wet napkin!
I was Argentinian for a night.
