Buffalo Soldiers National Museum
Houston, Texas
1834 Southmore
Houston, TX
The Buffalo Soldiers National Museum in Houston’s Third Ward is the only museum of its kind dedicated to the heritage and legacy of the African American soldier. It maintains the largest collection of Black military paraphernalia in the world. Once inside the walls of this life-sized homage to freedom, you are immediately immersed in the valor of the soldiers themselves.
There are authentic uniforms, weapons, medals, and plaques as well as saddles, equipment, letters and pictures. It’s a living, breathing memorial to a group of men that forever changed the face of the American military.
In an effort to help "pave the way" for a new, more fitting building, the BSNM has launched the Buy A Brick campaign that allows patrons to dedicate a brick to a loved one; the bricks will be used in the new facility. This museum is an entity that is worthy of support and an integral part of Black History in Houston.
